❝ Fenrir's parents were leaders of the resistance when the IVth Imperial Legion laid seige to the Golmore Jungle. His mother especially helped to deal heavy casualties to the Garlean soldiers, but flees the jungle when she learns she's pregnant, fearing for her unborn child. Eir flees all the way to Dravania, wanting to ensure her son is as far away as possible from the chaos of their home, and ends up in a small village of chocobo hunters, known as Tailfeather. Injured and exhausted, she explains her story to the hunters, pleading with them to take care of her child when it is born, as she fears the empire will search for her, and she cannot wholly abandon her people. The head of the village agrees, and once born, the kit is handed over to Marcechamp.The kit was told growing up that his mother had perished not long after he was born, as the hunters had been asked to say. He never questioned or pushed the matter further, being quite fond of his adoptive family. Though when he was still rather small, Fenrir fell severely ill as his Echo awakened. Eir had hung around the village, fretting over her kit and leaving him with a vague memory of her face he attributes to her simply being his guardian angel. Though kept abed for days, he recovered and was back to his usual self in no time. Or, almost his usual self. With his Echo came the ability to understand non-speaking sentient creatures as if they were speaking the same language as him. From animals to Morbols, he found himself able to communicate and over the years, the ability has proved to be rather useful.

Due to Eir having passed on some knowledge of viera, the hunters were aware that the kid could end up as a boy around his thirteenth summer, and did their best to use the two names his mother had given: Freya, and Fenrir. The names were used interchangeably, though as the kit grew, sometimes one name would be preferred over the other and the hunters would oblige. Though his body changed after his thirteenth summer, he found himself sometimes still feeling more like 'Freya' then 'Fenrir,' and the hunters always oblige when he has a preference, though they do tend to default to Freya at times, as that was the name that had been used more often.After the Calamity, his Echo visions became more frequent and he decided it was time to leave Tailfeather and set out to figure out what they mean. Though his family would miss him, they knew they had taught him well, and that Fenrir would be safe on his journey, and that he would visit whenever he was able.
